Mendota school board outlines $840,000 track and other facilities projects

The Mendota Township High School District 280 board on Nov. 17 reviewed several planned facilities projects and approved a water hook-up for the baseball and softball fields.
Board members were presented with cost estimates for larger capital work. The report said, "The track resurface and turf replacement is estimated to cost $840,000 from Field Turf," and board members asked for additional track and turf estimates from other vendors. The district also received a recommendation from Sterling Roof to replace roof rock in July–August 2026. The board noted that Johnson Controls' fire-panel work is not yet complete and requested updates before proceeding with related projects.
Smaller, immediate projects were discussed and authorized for follow-up. The board approved a water connection to athletic fields to support maintenance and asked Fair Play to inspect the stadium scoreboard. Members also discussed finishing masonry work in summer 2026 and asked US Tennis and other vendors to review the tennis courts. The report included a staff estimate that "The fire proofing for the stage curtains will be $31,000."
Board members directed staff to return with additional vendor bids and a timeline for any major capital work; no formal contract awards for the large projects were made at the meeting.
