Dan Reem, presenter for the Social Studies Department at Washington Community High School, reported that the department currently offers three dual-credit courses and four AP courses and highlighted recent projects including Mayor for the Day, election-volunteer activities and a Renaissance Faire.
Reem identified several department challenges: an upcoming retirement, pressure from expanding history topics relative to instructional time, and inconsistent preparation from feeder schools. He said the department is assessing what content to prioritize within available class time. The committee recorded the update for continuing curriculum review.
