District updates: athletics tournaments, Family Literacy Night, Dakota Den and lockdown training

Under Communications, multiple staff members reported on school programs and safety preparations. Athletic presenter Mr. Bashford said the district is finalizing JV and high-school girls’ Turkey Tournament arrangements, will host a boys JV tournament Dec. 19–20, and is working to hold a girls wrestling tournament on Martin Luther King Day.
Elementary staff member Mr. Berogan said Family Literacy Night plans expect more than 200 attendees; he noted a recent severe-weather drill went well and described Kindness Week displays in the library. High-school staff member Mr. Paddock said parents will be contacted before report cards if students are failing and described the Dakota Den (currently offering clothing and toiletries, with plans to include food) and a new after-school program for students needing extra help. Superintendent Mrs. Keffer said the strategic-planning committee discussed changes to state proficiency levels, that lockdown training was completed last week, and that she will attend the annual School Board Conference in Chicago later in the week.
