Board approves CHS storage roof, valve work and planning funds for Illinois Street turnaround

At the Feb. 16 meeting the board approved several summer facility projects: awarding a roofing bid for the CHS storage area to Hancock for $48,400, approving Allied’s additional valve replacement work not to exceed $35,000, and approving $90,000 for preliminary turnaround planning by Heneghan for Illinois Street.
Dr. Schuchman told the board the lowest roof bid came from Hancock at $48,400. Allied had submitted separate quotes for additional deteriorating valves outside the boiler area—about $26,000—but the board capped approval at $35,000 to cover contingencies. The district will continue to seek a bid for the CHS gym floor refinishing; that item was tabled. The Heneghan planning fee was approved to develop preliminary designs, consult with the Army Corps of Engineers as needed, and estimate costs to remove buildings and a fence behind the parking lot.
Board members approved the roof and valve contract motions by roll call and approved Heneghan planning work by roll call; all votes were 6-0 with one member absent.
