Wilmington district readies for spring state tests, recognizes students and athletic milestones

District principals reported a busy spring testing and events calendar at the March 9 board meeting. Stevens Intermediate Principal Kevin Mikuce said Illinois Assessment of Readiness testing for grades 3–5 will begin in March and that Book Blast participation rose to 64% this year (up from 59% in 2025), raising over $12,000 to provide additional books for students.
Wilmington Middle School Principal Adam Spicer outlined IAR dates (March 24–25 and April 9–10) and noted 77% of WMS students made the second‑trimester honor roll. Wilmington High School Principal Scott Maupin said all juniors will take the state‑required ACT exam on April 16 (8:00 a.m.–about 12:30 p.m.); he also highlighted extracurricular achievements including the Varsity Boys Basketball regional championship (Feb. 27) and Logan Van Duyne's second‑place finish at the IHSA Class 2A state wrestling finals.
