Board hears literacy, benchmarking and grant updates; student recognition planned for February

District staff reported on I-Ready/AimsWeb benchmarking, literacy professional development tied to the Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan, use of IDEA Part B and METT grant dollars, and plans for a student recognition ceremony in February.
Curriculum and assessment topics were a major portion of the Jan. 12 meeting. Mr. Matt Swick, curriculum director, recapped teacher institute activities on Jan. 5 focused on the Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan and noted a K–12 literacy follow-up during the district's early-release day on Feb. 5. He said the district completed I‑Ready math assessments in December and that AimsWeb/i‑Ready winter benchmarking would begin Jan. 12.
Mr. Swick also explained the district is working to maximize IDEA Part B grant funds with SOWIC and to access METT grant dollars through WILCO to support career and technical education at Wilmington High School. He announced an annual student recognition ceremony will be scheduled at the February board meeting for students who scored Above Proficient on the 2025 state tests.
Administrators from Bruning, Stevens and Wilmington Middle School provided complementary reports showing benchmark and assessment schedules and upcoming events tied to student supports and interventions.
