Board approves $10,290 in main-office lock upgrades after security audit

The La Grange Elementary School District 105 Board of Education approved the purchase and installation of main office locks for district schools, awarding the work to Fullmer Locksmith for a total of $10,290. The item followed an informational presentation from district facilities staff citing a security audit and the need to secure main offices that do not yet have updated locks.

"Keyfob access was installed in 2023 across the district, but there were a couple of areas that were not addressed which include the main offices," Steven Smidl said while presenting a line-item quote that listed costs by school. The vendor itemization presented by staff listed Gurrie $2,495; Spring Avenue $1,295; Hodgkins $1,995; Ideal $3,595; Seventh/District $910 (total $10,290). Because the total exceeded $10,000 the board considered the matter as an action item and moved to approve the purchase.

Dr. Robert Sherman moved to approve the purchase and installation; Daniel Barrett seconded. On roll call the board voted AYE: Daniel Barrett, Sheila Bryck, Megan Goggin, Robert Sherman, Bryan White and Kelly Young; ABSENT: James Kosenesky. The motion passed unanimously among members present. Board minutes note that the locks will integrate with existing keyfob ports; district staff indicated costs vary by door and that final scope per building is attached to the action item documentation.
