Committee members discussed the history and rationale for turf: Eyres asked why turf had been installed in 2014, and Buck said the main reason was to increase utilization — previously the surface was used only by varsity football. Buck noted many other schools use an 8-lane straightaway rather than a full 400-meter track and that straightaways must be done at the same time as turf if pursued. The committee agreed a design-build approach is a good option for the project.
