Salt Creek SD 48 board approves consent items, policies and construction design work

The Salt Creek School District 48 Board of Education met Aug. 14, 2025, and approved routine business and several formal actions affecting budget and facilities. Board President Mr. Cuny called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.; the board then appointed Mr. Kielminski as Secretary Pro Tem in Mrs. Stacy Rattana’s absence.
The board approved the consent agenda covering the June 18, 2025 minutes; Treasurer's Reports for June and July 2025; July–August disbursement reports; P-Card and Revolving Fund purchases; Student Activity Fund reports; the regular personnel report and a salary adjustment; and the destruction of Executive Session audio recordings older than 18 months. The motion to approve the consent agenda was moved by Mr. Van De Velde and seconded by Mr. Downer; roll call recorded all yeas with Mrs. Rattana absent.
The board also voted to adopt the set of updated policies reviewed by the Policy Committee (Press Plus Issue 118). The motion to adopt the policies was moved by Mr. Blair and seconded by Mr. Van De Velde and passed unanimously. Later in the meeting the board approved Amendment 26 to the Master Agreement with FGM Architects, authorizing the firm to proceed with the design development phase for work tied to the Safe Schools I Secure Futures referendum projects for summer 2026; that motion was moved by Mr. Blair and seconded by Mr. Van De Velde.
Finally, the board authorized publication of public notices: one announcing a Sept. 18, 2025 public hearing on the tentative 2025–26 budget (to be available to the public 30 days before the hearing) and another notice to review the purpose of proposed fund transfers. The consolidated actions were procedural and passed by voice or unanimous roll-call votes where recorded.
What happens next: the tentative budget will be available for public review prior to the Sept. 18 hearing; Amendment 26 will advance FGM into the design-development phase for the Safe Schools projects.
