South Harrison board elects 2026 officers, affirms committees and treasurer appointments

The South Harrison Community School Corporation Board on Jan. 6 elected Mary Mathes as board president, with a recorded vote of 5 yea, 1 nay and 1 abstention. The motion to elect Mathes was made by Larry Hauswald and seconded by Barbara Smith and carried after the roll call vote.
The board also elected Karen Lopp vice president (6-0-1) and Barbara Smith secretary (unanimous). The board designated Carolyn Wallace as corporation treasurer and Pamela Seipel as deputy treasurer, and appointed Lewis & Kappes, P.C. and Burgher & Burgher as legal counsel for the corporation. The body set its regular schedule for the first Tuesday of each month (executive session at 5:30 p.m., regular session at 6:30 p.m.) and designated the president as the media representative.
The board approved committee assignments for 2026, including Safe & Inclusive (Lopp and Hauswald), Bargaining (Mathes, Smith and Stewart), and Group Insurance (Mathes, Smith and Stewart), and confirmed a slate of external appointments such as the Indiana School Board Association delegate and several county boards. All items for organization and appointments were approved by motion and recorded in the minutes.
