Board holds closed sessions on student confidentiality and personnel matters, approves personnel report

During its Oct. 1 meeting the Chanute USD 413 Board voted to enter two closed executive sessions under the Kansas Open Meetings Act: one to discuss confidential student information and a second to discuss resignations, retirements, employments and transfers of non-elected personnel.
The motion for the closed session on student information was made by Bri Leroy and seconded by Heather Guernsey; the superintendent, assistant superintendent and director of teaching and learning were invited into the session. The board later moved into a closed session on personnel matters (motion by Jennifer Zywietz, seconded by Bri Leroy), extended that session once and subsequently reconvened to approve the personnel report as presented (motion by Bri Leroy, seconded by Heather Guernsey). Votes were recorded in the minutes as 6–0 in favor among attendees, with one absence.
The transcript records the motions and attendance for the closed sessions but does not include the substance of confidential student or personnel discussions, as expected for KOMA-exempt sessions.
