Summary

The visitors commission representative outlined small-business support and events funding in the commission’s budget. "We have a storefront rehab grant that's available to businesses... they can get up to $2,500 to help them spruce up the front of their store," the representative said, describing an open application process and an extended application window into November.
The representative also described billboard and event-support grants and floated speculative ideas—an amphitheater (cost range $100,000 to $1,000,000) and a potential trolley linking hotels and downtown—as topics for future planning rather than current appropriations. The commission also noted a museum debt (about $178,000) and discussed whether using commission funds to reduce that debt would free capacity for other initiatives.
