Purdue Extension asks council for one-time part‑time hire as office manager retires

A Purdue Extension regional manager (speaker 10) told the council the office manager plans to retire and the office has limited in-county capacity to train a replacement. "Our office manager who has been there, Shelly... She is going to retire next year. And having only one office staff, we think that it would be good if we could hire a part time person," the presenter said, asking for a one-time part-time hire to train with the incumbent and transition into the role.
The presenter also explained the contractual services line rose to about $100,000 this year under a new population-based formula and that some items (mileage for regional educators, certain computer leases) moved into Purdue's contractual bucket. Extension leaders said the part-time request is intended as a one-year, transition expense and can be removed from the budget thereafter if not needed.
