Emergency Management requested increases in repairs/maintenance and equipment budgets to address aging radio-room infrastructure and to buy a battery backup estimated between $8,000 and $12,000. Staff said some past equipment remained unused this year because planned replacements had not yet been ordered.
The EMA director described a requested Gen 9‑1‑1 appropriation that would provide call-simulation, CAD and radio/phone training for dispatchers to improve call-taking performance. "So so it's a, quality improvement tool," the director said, adding the system would give feedback and help assign training tasks to enhance compliance with national standards.
Council members pressed for clearer accounting because several repair and equipment lines show low year‑to‑date usage; staff said some funds are reserved for a forthcoming battery-backup purchase and other necessary fixes to maintain radio signal reliability.
