Board hears state budget uncertainty and possible effects on Arcadia Unified funding
Summary
Business services director told the board the governor and Legislature differ on one-time Student Support dollars ($1.7B vs. $500M) and other proposals; he flagged a potential Prop 98 underfunding concern tied to delayed tax receipts and said the district's bond sale benefited from a strong credit rating.

At the June 10 meeting, the district's business services update focused on outstanding state budget differences that could affect local school funding. Mr. Eslin summarized key gaps between the governor’s May revise and the legislature’s package, notably the one-time Student Support and Discretionary Block Grant and proposed career technical education funding, and walked the board through the timing for a final agreement.
"The governor proposed $1,700,000,000 to go towards this 1 time money. The legislators want to put $500,000,000 to it," Mr. Eslin said, noting the district will watch final negotiations before finalizing its adopted budget. He also noted the governor's proposal includes a three-year window for budgeting and that revenue timing—affected locally by wildfire-related delays in LA County—could create temporary Prop 98 calculation changes.
Mr. Eslin also reported the district's recent bond sale benefited from a strong credit rating and timing, saving an estimated 20–30 basis points over the life of the bonds. David Vaughn, the district’s director of fiscal services, will present the final adopted budget at the board's next meeting in two weeks.
