The Ashley Community Schools Board of Education voted to approve a proposal for the Ashley Robotics team to travel in 2026 and set the 2026–27 first day of school as Aug. 17.
Board member Dawn Wirt moved to approve the robotics trip and was seconded by Board member Anmarie Bradley Dodd; the motion carried with four yeas and two absences. The same 4–0 vote (with two absences) approved the district’s calendar-setting motion to make Aug. 17 the first day of school in 2026–27. Earlier in the meeting the board also approved the consent agenda by voice vote after a motion from Anmarie Bradley Dodd and a second from Dawn Wirt. Closed-session minutes related to negotiations were accepted by the board when it reconvened from closed session; the board noted it entered closed session at about 7:45 p.m. and came out at 8:23 p.m.
The votes recorded in the minutes list Anmarie Bradley Dodd, Steve Hardman, Ashleigh Shaw and Dawn Wirt as voting "Yea" and Shelly Oswald and Trent Yelsik as absent. The approvals carry forward routine operational items and a student activity travel plan; no dollar amounts or travel destinations were specified in the public minutes.
