The Algonac Board of Education voted 6–0 Aug. 25 to approve its consent agenda, which included personnel actions, minutes, and the treasurer's report. "It was moved by Goulet, supported by Emery, that the Board of Education approves all consent agenda items," the board record states.
The personnel approvals include two new hires effective Aug. 27, 2025: Corrine Hallam as a special education teacher at Algonquin Elementary (MA 10, $79,044) and Shannon VanBelle as a special education paraprofessional at Millside Elementary (Step 2 with diapering, $17.52/hour). Two resignations were accepted: Janiene Denomme, occupational therapist, effective July 29, 2025, and Brandy MacDonald, paraprofessional at Algonquin Elementary. The motion carried with six ayes and no nays.
The board also approved bills for payment totaling $487,480.41 (General Fund $418,430.11; School Service Fund–Food $20,813.42; Capital Project Fund $36,790.44; Internal Funds $11,446.44; Debt Retirement $0.00). In addition, the board approved other wire transfers of $531.10 and payroll and withholdings of $554,311.24, for total transfers of $554,842.34. No individual board member votes were recorded by name beyond the aye/nay tally.
Board procedure: the consent motion bundled routine items — agenda, minutes from July 28, 2025, personnel, and financial reports — into a single vote. That approach means the hires, resignations and the treasurer's totals were approved without separate debate at this meeting.
