The district's pupil accounting specialist, Catina Crossman, reported Count Day and school‑of‑choice figures at the Nov. 10 board meeting.
Crossman said the anticipated fall count certification was 1,138 students and 1,132 full‑time equivalent (FTE); as of Nov. 7 the district reported 1,132 students and 1,126 FTE. Crossman explained FTE calculation rules and the pupil‑blend method used to determine foundation‑allowance state aid. She also said Benzie had 137 incoming school‑of‑choice students (combined Section 105 and 105c totals) while 591 district students attend other districts under school‑of‑choice arrangements.
Crossman noted preschool students are not recognized by the state for school‑of‑choice but she tracks them for internal data; 27 preschool students were enrolled from other districts for internal reporting.
