The Benzie County Central Board of Education on Dec. 8 approved 2025/26 Budget Amendment #1, a measure the district said reduces a previously reported shortfall but does not eliminate it. Director of Finance Danielle Banasiak told the board the district received "the one-time payment for 271(4) MPSERS cost offset of $96,233.99," and that the state had calculated a per‑pupil discretionary payment of $14.58.
Banasiak said the amendment reduces the projected deficit to approximately $521,807 from an earlier estimate of $815,729, but cautioned that the offset "helps, [but] it does not replace the $700,000 deficit created by the loss of other MPSERS funding." The motion to approve the amendment (25‑26‑046) passed 5–0; the motion was moved by Mr. Egeler and supported by Mrs. Campana. The board and administration said they will continue to pursue creative solutions and raise the MPSERS funding issue at the state level.
