Board hears transportation update: route reductions, aging vans and upcoming retirements

In Transportation Supervisor Dave McIntyre's absence, Hether McIntyre briefed the board on district transportation. McIntyre said the district reduced routes from six to five following a bus driver retirement and currently operates four vans (one dedicated to special education) and a fleet of eight buses, five of which are assigned to daily routes.
McIntyre said the district has partnered with River Valley and New Buffalo to share special-education transportation services. She noted that all vans have more than 80,000 miles, are used frequently for athletic transport, and will need replacement within a few years. The district also anticipates an additional bus driver retirement and the transportation supervisor retiring at the end of the school year.
