President Brenda Hondorp called the Byron Center Public Schools Board of Education to order at 6:30 p.m. on March 9, 2026 at the district board room, 8542 Byron Center Ave SW. The board voted unanimously to approve a consent agenda that included meeting minutes, February expenditures and a Schools of Choice resolution for 2026–2027.
The board subsequently approved six action items by roll call: two student trip requests (Essentially Ellington and the high school cross country trip), a leave of absence for Meghan Furney, a policy update labeled po5517.01, a device proposal from the technology department, and a bond purchase resolution. Each motion recorded all seven board members—Brenda Hondorp, Rob Hughes, Tom McCoy, Tim Oberst, Amber Swift, Thalia Tilma and Brad Wiechertjes—as voting aye.
