Cedar Springs board adopts resolution disavowing conduct of member who alleged corruption

The Cedar Springs Public Schools Board of Education on Dec. 8 adopted a formal "disclaiming resolution" that rebukes public accusations by Board Member Jason Lund and affirms that individual members do not speak for the board unless authorized.
The motion, offered in the minutes as provided by Board Member Shoffner, passed with AYES from Bowser, Patin, Reed, Shoffner and Slager; Lund voted no and Gilmore abstained. The resolution states the board will "disavow the aforementioned conduct as representing decisions or actions by the school board" and cites board bylaws requiring members to refrain from unilateral public assertions.
The resolution recites several prior complaints and investigations: it references an April 2025 outside counsel review that described earlier "aggressive" conduct by Lund toward staff and board colleagues; a staff complaint dated Nov. 14, 2025 alleging verbally aggressive behavior; and a formal complaint submitted Nov. 25, 2025. The board said those records informed its finding that Lund's Nov. 10 public allegation of corruption was unsubstantiated.
Board President Heidi Reed presided over the meeting and the minutes record that the board voted to place the community on notice that, absent a board motion, an individual member has no authority to act on behalf of the board. The minutes include certification by Board Secretary Trace Slager that notice of the meeting complied with Michigan's Open Meetings Act.
The resolution does not remove Mr. Lund from office; it is recorded in the board minutes as a formal statement of the board's position and conduct expectations going forward.
