Farmington board rejects full-service custodial contract, approves hybrid model with ABM

The Farmington Board of Education voted down a full-service custodial contract with ABM Education Services, LLC and instead approved a hybrid custodial model that retains Farmington Public School District daytime custodians while contracting ABM for afternoon and evening staffing.
Trustee Claudia T. Heinrich moved to enter a full-service contract with ABM that would place ABM in charge of daytime, afternoon and evening custodial staffing (retaining one AM custodian with the district); that motion failed on a roll call vote, 2-5 (Ayes: Heinrich, Weems; Nays: Blau, Hull, Recinto, Smith, Walker). Heinrich then moved, with Vice President Donald Walker Jr. supporting, to approve a hybrid model under which the district will provide daytime custodial services and ABM will provide afternoon and evening services; the board approved the hybrid contract 7-0. The approved motion specifies that Farmington Public School District remain responsible for custodial equipment and consumables and that ABM staff the non-daytime shifts under the resolution as presented.
