Public works lays out summer paving, culvert and striping plans

Mike Genest, the town's public-works lead, told the select board on July 21 that crews and contractors have completed several culvert and turnaround projects and that multiple paving and striping tasks remain on the summer schedule.
"We're gonna put a fog line on Quaker Ridge this year, which we haven't done before," Genest said, describing plans for double yellow and white lines and noting concern the lines could make a road feel narrower. He reviewed work on Mayberry Hill, Johnson Hill and the bottom half of Johnson Hill (paving and ditching), and detailed striping slated for Quaker Ridge, Tenney Hill, Leach Hill, Keith Road, Mayberry Hill, Point Sebago, Libby and Raymond Cape.
Genest said the town would use contractors for larger sections and the town crew for smaller tasks to save money and speed work. He also noted plans to seek state funding for catch-basin work on Route 11 to address ongoing drainage problems and said coordination with neighboring towns often helps the scheduling and economy of contractor work.
Board members asked about sequencing and contractor availability; Genest said some Raymond and other nearby paving schedules may require flexibility and the town will "piggyback" when feasible to finish sections before fall rains.
