Board hears report on forestry truck frame separation after wildfire response

The Casco Select Board was told a town forestry truck suffered major structural damage while assisting on a five-acre wildfire July 12.
Tony said the truck's bed separated from the chassis during the response and staff are stripping equipment to determine repair scope and cost. "The bed of the frame failed, the results of the bed completely separating from the chassis," he said, and added the town will evaluate damage and bring estimated repair costs and timelines back to the board.
Tony said some equipment will be moved to other vehicles to maintain capability during the vehicle's downtime and that the town would seek different repair vendors rather than immediately returning to the prior vendor. Board members asked whether insurance would cover the repairs; Tony said he would check coverage once the estimate is complete and report back to the board.
No repair contract or expenditure was approved at the meeting; members asked staff to present cost and insurance information when available.
