Farmington Board of Education votes 6-0 to enter closed session under Michigan Open Meetings Act

The Farmington Board of Education held a special meeting on Feb. 4, 2026, at the Maxfield Education Center. President Terri A. Weems called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m., and roll call showed six members present; Trustee Angie F. Smith was noted as arriving late at 6:12 p.m.
During the open portion of the meeting the board approved the meeting agenda. Trustee Claudia T. Heinrich moved to approve the agenda and Vice President Donald Walker Jr. supported the motion; the minutes record a voice vote with Ayes: Blau, Heinrich, Hull, Recinto, Walker, Weems and Nays: none (MOTION APPROVED 6-0).
After the agenda vote, Vice President Donald Walker Jr. moved "that the Board of Education convene in closed session pursuant to Section 8(h) Attorney-Client Privilege of the Open Meetings Act, Public Act 267 of 1976." Trustee Ronald Recinto supported the motion. A roll-call vote recorded Ayes: Cheryl B. Blau, Claudia T. Heinrich, Thomas Hull, Ronald Recinto, Donald Walker Jr., and Terri A. Weems; Nays: none. The motion passed 6-0.
The minutes show the board moved into closed session at 6:03 p.m. The record does not include the content of the closed session; the board returned to the special meeting at 8:22 p.m. and adjourned at 8:23 p.m. No public comments were offered during the open session.
