The Covert Public School Board of Education met in special session on March 23, 2026. Board member Valerie Bury moved, and Alan Smaka supported, a motion “to adopt the agenda for this meeting as presented, with the understanding that the Chair shall have the discretion to rearrange the order of business if deemed necessary.” The motion passed on a roll call vote of seven ayes, zero nays.
President Geoffrey Rose called the meeting to order, led the Pledge of Allegiance and read the district Vision and Mission statements. Members present were Geoffrey Rose, Cheryl McCray, Valerie Bury, Aaron Wittorp, Dorreon Simmons Gaines, Veronica Aburto Cortes and Alan Smaka. The agenda on the meeting notice listed a start time of 5:00 p.m., though the minutes record that the meeting was called to order by the president at 3:00 p.m. (documented in the minutes). The meeting record shows no public comment was received during the call for public comment.
The board did not discuss amendments to the motion on the record; the approved agenda included scheduled presentations by outside firms (see separate summary).
