Portsmouth Parks and Recreation director Mark Palomarczuk said the department will host weekly Sunset Thursday concerts at Festival Park every Thursday in August from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring local bands, food trucks and free water for attendees. "Every Thursday in August, we'll be out there at Festival Park from 06:30 to 9 with a lot of great local bands," Palomarczuk said.
Palomarczuk said the city is seeing "record numbers of attendance" at the Thursday series and that August is the department’s busiest month for park use, with City Park regularly crowded on weekends. He announced the Coast Guard 5K/10K is scheduled for Aug. 1 with a 7:30 a.m. start; the event is a partnership honoring Portsmouth’s Coast Guard ties. He also said summer camps end in late July, rec centers will reopen to the public in the second week of August, and the Back‑to‑School Bash will be held at Festival Park on Aug. 15 from noon to 7 p.m., with roughly 40 vendors and programming run in partnership with the Big Homies Foundation.
For event schedules and updates Palomarczuk directed listeners to the department’s site and social channels: "If they go to portsmouthparks.com, they can find all of our information there and we're always posting on social media," he said.
