County executive outlines relocation plan tied to new jail; courtrooms and records to move

During the April 29 session the County Executive summarized a multi-step plan to reconfigure county facilities now that a new jail is opening.
"We are implementing operation relocation," the County Executive said. He explained the county will lose two on-site courtrooms to the detention center and needs to move criminal records and staff. "With the new jail opening up, we will be losing our 2 courtrooms, Courtroom A and Courtroom B will actually go out to the detention center."
He said the initial work is to clear stored boxes from a human-resources area so painting and carpeting can proceed, describing that as the "first domino" allowing HR and finance to relocate and the jury room to be repurposed. Chair asked the legislature and staff to decide what to bring back or store and to complete removals within about a week to keep the schedule.
The County Executive also said reopening the courthouse front door for public access was on the work list. No formal ordinance or budget amendment was voted at the meeting on these operational moves; members were asked to follow up with administrative staff and e-mail coordination.
