Manistee Area Public Schools board elects 2026 officers, names Thompson president

At its Jan. 20 organizational meeting the Manistee Area Public Schools Board unanimously elected Jim Thompson president, Jess Stallings vice president, Shelley Johnson secretary and Justine Slawinski treasurer for 2026.
The Manistee Area Public Schools Board completed its organizational business Jan. 20, electing a slate of officers for 2026. Theresa Anderson moved to nominate Jim Thompson for president; the board closed nominations and elected Thompson by roll call (Yea:6, Nay:0, Absent:1). "Motion to elect Jim Thompson a Board President," the record shows.
Shelley Johnson nominated Jess Stallings for vice president with Ashley Sensabaugh supporting; the board elected Stallings as vice president on a unanimous roll call. Justine Slawinski nominated Shelley Johnson for secretary and later was herself nominated and elected treasurer. Each officer election was approved on motions that passed with six yeas and one absence. These organizational votes occurred early in the meeting after Superintendent Ronald Stoneman called the session to order at 7:28 p.m.
The newly elected president, Thompson, presided for the remainder of the meeting. The board did not record any conflicts of interest during the disclosure portion of the agenda.
