Human services commission to finish grant reviews, to bring recommendations to council in September

Casey Hogan, speaking for Human Services, told the council the commission has reviewed nine of 14 funding applications and expects to finish reviews by August; application scores are due after August 25 and the commission will present recommendations in a joint session with council in September.
"Pretty much our last couple meetings, we've just been deep in application review," Casey said, describing ongoing review work. Casey also described outreach activities including tabling at Covington Days, a planned story time at the library, and an event at Covington Place senior apartments. She said one commissioner wants to host story time to engage younger residents.
Casey explained the Covington initiative program is a small competitive funding stream for startup nonprofits that enables the city to fund services directly to residents, and said that allocation explains the reduced review load this cycle. Council asked clarifying questions about the program and outreach plans; no formal action was taken at the meeting.
