Resident urges expedited speed controls on Southeast 262nd ahead of new connector opening

Patty Campbell, a 38‑year Covington resident, told the City Council she is worried about speeding on Southeast 262nd Street and asked the council for an expedited way to slow traffic before 204th Avenue South opens and redirects additional vehicles to her street.
"The city has collected speed data 3 times and determined that on 2 62nd Street between 200th Avenue and 400th Avenue, 90% of all traffic exceeds the posted speed of 25 miles per hour," Campbell said. She told council that 60% of vehicles travel at least 5 mph over the limit and 21% travel at least 10 mph over the limit, and that she cannot wait another year or two for the city's formal evaluation framework to conclude.
Campbell asked the council to "guide me in an expedited way to slow traffic down in my neighborhood" and offered to help with the process. Councilmembers acknowledged the request and staff said an email update and/or placement on a future agenda is possible; Councilmember Jennifer requested regular bi‑monthly email updates until the issue is resolved.
Council did not adopt an immediate policy change at the meeting but directed staff to follow up with the resident by email and to consider a meeting or agenda item to present relevant traffic‑mitigation options and timelines.
