Wallace Dietz, the committee's nominee to the Metro Nashville Airport Authority, told the panel he has followed airport issues closely through litigation and said he supports protecting the airport as a local asset while ensuring community input on powers such as condemnation.
Dietz described recent legal steps challenging a state-appointed board's authority and said Nashville has asked the Federal Aviation Administration to recognize the metro-appointed board as the sponsor because "the FAA has not approved any other sponsor." He cautioned that competing boards that approve contracts without clear legal authority create "real chaos" for third parties that might enter agreements with the authority. Several council members raised constituent concerns about increased flight paths and neighborhood noise; Dietz said he would investigate what authority the Metro Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) retains versus FAA jurisdiction and pledged to elevate resident concerns.
