Cherry Creek Elementary Principal Holly Muscoe told the Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education on Feb. 2 that the school serves "420 students" and that staff are focusing on consistent classroom experiences and leadership development across grades. Muscoe said the school gathers the student body together at least once a month to celebrate work and build community, and described active partnerships with families and local first responders.
Muscoe said Cherry Creek has 58 staff members engaged in professional learning designed "to do better for the kids and for each other," and that the school uses MTSS to provide similar experiences from classroom to classroom. The principal credited the school’s parent association and support from Chocolay Township Police and Fire-Rescue for helping sustain school programming and student safety.
Board members responded with praise for the emphasis on leadership and community-building. Board Member Eric Smith said he was "really glad to see these course changes that you're proposing and to see that the District is not standing still," while other trustees thanked the presenters for their work connecting students with civic and leadership opportunities. The presentation occurred during the superintendent’s report and preceded a separate high-school curriculum discussion.
