Proposal would let fire marshal approve routine fireworks permits, preserving board appeals

Supervisor opened a discussion on proposed changes to the town's fireworks-permit process and invited the staff presenting the amendments. Keating (speaker 6), introduced earlier, said the proposal would move routine administrative reviews to the fire marshal's office and have that office check insurance and safety requirements before approving a permit.

"So every fireworks permit goes through the town board even when there's no issues," Keating said, describing the current flow. He explained that the administrative-approval pathway would allow fire-marshal staff to grant permits that meet safety standards and refer only denials or appeals to the town board. Council members asked whether the clerk's office should retain a registration record; staff said records would still be kept and applicants could appeal denials to the board if safety requirements were not met.
