Bullitt Hill bridge washout prompts county to seek replacement funding; crews prepare for season

Judge/Executive Scott Bates reported that a bridge on Bullitt Hill washed out and a bridge inspector has evaluated the site to recommend next steps.
Bates said FEMA "wanted us to get it repaired a year ago, but the quote was $315,000 compared to FEMA’s estimate of $90,000 which will not even remove the existing one." He said another replacement program will accept applications the second week of May and that, depending on the inspector's findings, the county may place concrete and reopen the crossing with a load limit.
Esquire Brad Fisher told the Court the Road Committee met and crew operations are active—bushwhacking in Port Royal, grader work, graveling and ditching, replacement of a cutting bar, and repair of an excavator cylinder as parts arrive. Fisher asked residents for patience while equipment is maintained and seasonal work continues.
