Henry County animal shelter reports adoptions and fundraising; interlocal agreement deferred to special meeting

Deputy Judge Buchanan presented the Animal Services report: the shelter recorded 8 adoptions generating $1,400, donations of $1,297 and $335.24 in other funds for a total of $3,032.24 in receipts. The shelter currently holds 29 dogs after 27 were taken in and 33 went out in the same period (14 adoptions, 11 rescues and 8 returns to owners), the deputy reported.
Esq. Hartlage told the Court the Animal Services Committee found general positivity and coordination among staff and volunteers and noted planned fundraisers including Bark & Whine (Oct. 22) and Paws on the River (Aug. 21). Committee members discussed a possible $10,000 grant through Verizon, the need to plumb and install a donated pet bathing area, raising the height of a four‑foot interior fence, creating a concrete pad for donated kennels, and upgrading the administrative area with two desks and four chairs.
Judge Bates said the amended Henry‑Trimble County Interlocal Agreement will be considered at the special meeting scheduled for April 28 so magistrates have adequate time to review the document. No final action on the interlocal agreement was taken at the April 21 meeting.
