Henry County authorizes bids for rock, asphalt, salt and striping ahead of higher blacktop prices

At the April 21 meeting the Henry County Fiscal Court authorized Judge/Executive Scott Bates to advertise for bids for the county to purchase rock, asphalt, salt and road‑striping services. The motion, made by Esq. Frederick and seconded by Esq. McManis, carried unanimously.
Judge Bates cautioned the Court that "blacktop will be higher this year," and Deputy Judge Buchanan urged magistrates to identify roads soon so contractors can price material and mobilization appropriately. The Road Committee indicated limited funds will constrain long stretches of paving this year and contractors should be provided with specific road lists to prepare accurate bids.
The action clears the way for competitive bidding but does not commit the county to purchase until contracts are awarded. County staff said they will provide road lists to facilitate timely contractor responses.
