Michigan Center Board adopts multiple NEOLA policy updates, rescinds select policies

The Michigan Center Board of Education voted Nov. 10 to adopt a set of NEOLA policy updates covering curriculum, nondiscrimination, homebound instruction, graduation requirements, bullying, digital accessibility and information security.
Member Wolvin moved to adopt the listed revisions; Member Villarreal supported the motion and it carried. The board specifically approved Policy 2210 (Curriculum Development — Approved Courses), Policy 2266 (Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities), Policy 2412 (Homebound Instruction Program), Policy 5460 (Graduation Requirements), Policy 5517.01 (Bullying and Other Aggressive Behavior toward Students), Policy 7540.02 (Digital Content and Accessibility), Policy 8300 (Continuity of Organizational Operations Plan), and Policy 8305 (Information Security).
The board also approved replacement and technical-correction items related to nondiscrimination and Section 504/ADA compliance, including Policies 1422/3122/4122 (Nondiscrimination, Equal Employment Opportunity, and Anti-Harassment) as replacements and technical corrections to Policy 2260 and related Section 504/ADA employment policies.
Separately, the board voted to rescind three previously proposed policy updates: Policy 1422.02/3122.02/4122.02 (Nondiscrimination Based on Genetic Information of the Employee), Policy 1662/3362/4362 (Anti-Harassment), and Policy 7541 (Electronic Data Processing Disaster Recovery Plan). Member Wolvin made the motion to rescind and Member Villarreal supported it; the board carried the motion.
Board members did not add additional amendments during the meeting; the actions were taken as recorded in the consent of unfinished business. The revisions and rescissions will be reflected in the district's policy manual and become effective according to standard board procedures.
