Board debates class sizes, enrollment projections and fixtures for preschool

Superintendent Shaw walked the board through cohort charts and projections and said the district is projecting a roughly 90-student loss year-to-year in the near term, though individual grade jumps occur and projections can change. Committee members raised facility questions: will smaller toilets and changing fixtures be required if classrooms shift to younger ages, and whether unit ventilator configurations will support future air conditioning installations.
ISD staff said they expect preschool programs (including three- and four-year-old services) to attract families and that GSRP slots can sometimes bring families into a district for kindergarten, but also acknowledged GSRP is countywide and that families may attend programs in other districts. The board asked staff to add explicit enrollment-and-budget scenarios for each configuration option before any final decisions.
