Cindy described operational improvements since partnering with METS, including more stable driver staffing and the addition of a school bus safety monitor role, van drivers and substitute drivers. “The increase is just one year extension with a 27% service fee,” she said when describing the change staff were negotiating.
Board members asked for backup documentation: a list of additional staff positions (how many safety monitors, substitute van drivers), last year’s contract totals, and comparative contracts from other districts to verify the market rate. Several members asked staff to present plan B cost estimates (hiring district drivers) so the board could compare options before approving an extension. Staff agreed to gather dollar figures and the requested contract comparisons for the next meeting.
