The panel voted to approve LM20260047, an order concerning motor vehicle tax accounts tied to Chagall K. Santos, after a person who identified herself as Michelle of 252 Fairmont Ave. said she no longer owns the vehicle and provided a police report dated Feb. 6, 2022.
Michelle told the board, “I brought proof from the last hearing that we had that I no longer have the vehicle,” and handed the police report to staff. Members and staff discussed how license plates and registration affect tax liability and advised obtaining a DMV receipt showing the plates were surrendered so taxes would not continue to accrue.
Staff and the petitioner reviewed calculations for the years in question and concluded that, after reducing use-based charges and forgiving past interest under board policy, the petitioner would owe $341.53. The chair set a payment deadline of Sept. 8; the petitioner said she would pay by that date. Alderman [mover] made the motion to approve the item, members voted by voice and the motion carried.
