Port Huron schools project smaller enrollment decline than budgeted

Superintendent Kerhoulas told the Port Huron Area School District Board on Oct. 10 that the district is now estimating a smaller enrollment decline than was budgeted for the 2025–26 year. "Currently, projections are that we will have the smallest yearly loss of students in over a decade (budgeted to be down 100; current estimating down 53; PK-12 estimated at 7,228)," Kerhoulas said.
Board members discussed how the narrower decline could affect staffing and program decisions tied to per-pupil funding. The superintendent did not present a final staffing adjustment plan at the special meeting and said updated enrollment data will be shared as it becomes available.
