Middle school teacher walks board through Capturing Kids' Hearts, helps draft social contract

Otsego Public Schools Board of Education members heard a presentation on Oct. 27 from Jake Knash, a life fitness teacher and Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) trainer at Otsego Middle School. Knash explained how CKH practices are used with students and staff to build relationships and improve classroom climate.
During the workshop, Knash worked with trustees to draft a Social Contract intended to set expectations for meetings and interactions between board members, staff and the community. Board Vice President Shelly Jirgens later thanked Knash for his role in both presenting the program and facilitating the contract, saying his contribution was a "cornerstone to OPS." The Social Contract will guide future board discussions and was highlighted by trustees as a tool to strengthen school climate initiatives.
