The Aitkin Public Schools board voted March 26 to extend an employment offer to Mary Morem as the lone finalist for the district superintendent position, contingent on completion of contract negotiations and required checks. Chair Roland Hill and board members said the offer depends on "a mutually agreeable employment contract, a criminal background check and data requests are completed with results acceptable to the School Board."
The motion to extend the offer was made by Roland Hill and seconded by Rev. Dawn Houser; the board passed the motion. Board members had interviewed candidates and reviewed reference checks and community and staff question sessions earlier in the meeting before moving to identify a lone finalist. The board recessed for deliberations during the interview process and again later while contract parameters and next steps were discussed.
