The Albert Lea Public School District board voted to approve a revised FY26 General Fund budget totaling $59,745,253. Executive Director Paul Durbahn told the board the district remains in a stable financial position but is facing declining enrollment that is reducing revenue.
"The total revised General Fund budget for FY26 is $59,745,253," Durbahn said during his presentation, and he reported a projected General Fund balance for FY26 of approximately 11.96%, slightly under the board's 12% policy target. The board moved to accept the revised budget (motion by Neal Skaar; second by Angie Hoffman); the motion carried 7-0.
Durbahn emphasized that while the district is not currently in deficit, the downward trend in enrollment will require attention going forward. The administration will return to the board with final FY26 and preliminary FY27 budget materials for review in June. The board's acceptance of the revised budget authorizes administration to proceed under the revised spending assumptions and accounting presented at the meeting.
