She also explained that the smoke- and carbon-monoxide alarm requirements were changed to follow the IBC/IRC rather than a simpler earlier draft provision that required one alarm per floor.
Members said the doorway and alarm clarifications are substantive changes intended to make the ordinance consistent with model code standards and to improve enforceability of technical requirements.
