District staff outline interventions, cell-phone policy and upcoming grants and bond work

District staff used the March 9 meeting to present instruction and policy items and to update the board on grants and bond projects.
Middle School reading and math interventionists Stacey Andrews and Tim Wicklund described interventions in place at the middle school to support struggling readers and math students. Curriculum Director Susanne Carpenter and principals Leah Barnes and Carolyn Murray presented the proposed Collaborative Literacy K-5 English Language Arts curriculum and reported site visits to other Michigan schools as part of their evaluation. Each principal explained their building's cell-phone policy and Superintendent Davison summarized planned changes to district guidance.
In the scheduled reports Superintendent Davison also briefed the board on the 27L State Grant for education compensation, district finances and pay periods, bond updates and the district-owned well building. Principals' updates were noted as to be distributed to staff and families by email. The public record does not include detailed grant amounts or the full text of proposed cell-phone policy changes; those items will be handled by district administration and reported back to the board.
