Otsego Public Schools board adopts agenda, approves consent items and an 8th-grade Chicago trip

The Otsego Public Schools Board of Education convened Dec. 8, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the Otsego Middle School Media Center. Board President Amy Stender called the meeting to order; all seven trustees were present.
Trustees moved through routine business early in the meeting. Vice President Shelly Jirgens moved to adopt the agenda, seconded by Trustee Jessica Hazelhoff; the motion passed unanimously (Yea: 7, Nay: 0). Later, Secretary Mike Keeler moved to approve the consent agenda — including minutes, monthly bills, employment approvals and accepted resignations — with a unanimous roll-call vote.
The board also approved an 8th-grade field trip to Chicago after a motion by Trustee Shannon Goodwin, seconded by Treasurer Todd Bentley; the vote was recorded as unanimous. The meeting included the presentation 'Translating District Vision into Classroom Success' by Middle School Principal Mark VanderKlok and Vice Principal Sarah Patin.
Following regular business, the board entered a closed session at 7:35 p.m. on a motion by Vice President Jirgens (seconded by Trustee Shannon Goodwin) and returned to open session at 8:41 p.m.; the meeting adjourned at 8:49 p.m.
