Superintendent previews Waterloo bond project, proposes K–6 building and possible preschool

Superintendent Scholl told the Monroe Public Schools board during a Sept. 9 work session that the Waterloo bond project included in the board packet is set up as an elementary school and that the project team would like to add preschool space.
"The building is set to be a it's kindergarten through 6th grade," Scholl said, adding that the design team — including staff and parents — will bring recommendations to the board. He told members the team will present final recommendations and answer further questions at the board’s meeting the following night.
Scholl said the project team has discussed grade configuration with a broad group of stakeholders and that final usage — specifically whether preschool will be added — has not yet been decided. The superintendent characterized the plan as adaptable to accommodate preschool-age children if the board approves that addition.
Board members used the work session to seek operational details ahead of formal action. The superintendent said the presentation team will return at the next meeting for formal approval and to respond to any remaining technical questions on enrollment, classroom counts and facility layout.
